January 29, 2024: Led by Dr. Noha Hussein, Professor in Industrial Engineering, the NextGen Innovators Hub is part of the CEN Innovation Program launched by Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN, in Fall 2023 to enhance engineering students’ educational experience and strengthen CEN's community engagement.  

January 29, 2024: After 16 years of extensive exploration and testing, AUS- research team led by Dr. Dr. Sherif Yehia from the AUS Department of Civil Engineering and Dr. Nasser Qaddoumi from the AUS Department of Electrical Engineering design concrete mix that can protect buildings from electronic sabotage.

January 18, 2024: In a world where the search for a revolutionary cancer treatment to save lives is of paramount importance, an American University of Sharjah (AUS) research team (Prof. Ghaleb Husseini and Prof. Mohammad Al-Sayah) has successfully secured a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a pioneering chemotherapy treatment model.

January 17, 2024: AUS Board of Trustees member Prof. Daniele Struppa( expert on Fourier Analyses) delivered a theoretical talk on "Super oscillations" at the AUS Campus. Prof. Struppa is the 13th president of Chapman University in Orange, California (note that if U send A to the front of S, we get USA , weird Badawi, I know) .

January 9, 2024: A surprised encounter: My Russian friend and colleague,  Farid Khafizov,  at the University of North Texas, USA (Ph.D. in Logic and Set Theory), gave me the Russian name “Aymanov.” We lost connection after 1999. Pic1, Pic2.

January 2, 2024 : Palestine J. Math launched a new section to publish pieces of exposition (covering mathematical issues in higher education, past figures of mathematics, and mathematical curiosities) and edited by Professor Peter Larcombe (The University of Derby, UK),  p.j.larcombe@derby.ac.uk to whom submissions may be made.

December 25, 2023: Professor Syed Tariq Rizvi (Algebraist) at the Ohio State University died. God bless his soul. An International Conference was held in 2021 dedicated to him. I presented a talk dedicated to him. He was an editor of the Palestine J. Math.

December 21, 2023: Starting Spring 2024, the MBA at the AUS will be available through a blended learning format, combining face-to-face and online components.

December 18, 2023: Our new chancellor Tod Laursen is a poet too, I TRULY and HONESTLY love what he said (as AUS ranked 3 in UAE

in sustainability): “We continuously work on fostering a culture that values environmental stewardship, social equity and economic resilience. This is a dynamic journey, a continuous effort to inspire and equip the next generation with the knowledge and tools needed to shape a future where both humanity and the Earth thrive in harmony,”  I  wish we do. My bad experience with people calling for environmental protection is this (2014): click. Still, I must admit the new generation is more humane and aware of things than my generation. I put it in simple street language: “Better to try than do nothing about it.”

November 30, 2023: External Examiner to Dr. Farah Omar's PhD thesis on Commutative Algebra at Granada University, Spain. Dr. Farah Omar received her B.S. in Math from  Birzeit University, Palestine: pic 1, pic 2, pic 3, pic 4, pic 5, I suppose to be there as part of my sabbatical, but my visa did not come out; damn, the world is changing; I used to get a visa to Europe in Max 5 days.

November 15, 2023: We are proud of our undergraduate Math student, Dr. Noora Alsaeed, she completed her PhD in Astrophysics and Planetary Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado-USA. Presently, she is working as a Senior Space Science Researcher at the UAE Space Agency in Abu Dhabi, she presented a talk at the AUS on November 15, 2023. She was kind enough and agreed to take a picture with me

October 27, 2023: In pure Mathematics, we often create problems and try to solve them, and sometimes it takes years and even hundreds of years before a solution is found.  So, a scary thought came to me: What do politicians do? July 18, 2023: Suheel Khoury talked to me, complaining that the views for the first video I posted for him on YOUTUBE went down from 700+  to  500+.   His research reveals that YouTube will increase views by one if you watch at least  60% of the video, “clicking on then off within seconds” will be detected by YouTube and will not be counted.  He sent me this video, this time in Russia, and asked me to post it, hoping he would get more views. If you are not in this area of research, I recommend that you do as I do, I will let it run on mute in the background for 25 minutes, then close it, so it will be counted as viewed.  From the video, I noticed  “Alexi” is a big fan and a follower of Suheel; here is the video. July 10--15, 2023: An Algebra Conference was held in Fes-Morocco from July 12-15, 2023 in honor of my lifetime friend and companion since the age of  -9 months, Ayman Badawi; click here. Scopus Indexed Springer Proceedings will publish a proceeding if you like to contribute with a research paper or a survey article (even if you did not attend such a conference). Click here.   Note that Proceedings of the Jangjeon Mathematical Society (South Korea) will publish a particular issue for this conference, but only conference attendees can submit papers presented at the meeting or new papers.

July 6, 2023: Dr. Amani Al-Othman from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Mehdi Ghommem from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Rami Hawileh from the Department of Civil Engineering have recently been appointed as endowed chairs  in recognition of their exceptional achievements in research, teaching and industry collaboration.

July 1, 2023: I called  Suheel Khoury, wishing him a happy Eid al-Adha, I learned that he was in Armenia and Russia, and he gave me the link to a talk that he presented in Armenia, click here; he told me that he is conducting research with researchers in a Russian-center (Knowing suheel, maybe soon, he will establish a senate inside the center, “Allah Yostor” )))))) )

June 19, 2023: Dr. Mohammed Jaradat, Professor in Mechanical Engineering and a mechatronics graduate program faculty at American University of Sharjah (AUS), has put robotics at the center of his research, seeking and producing AI practical solutions that address real-world problems in areas of computational intelligence, transportation and renewable energy.  Personal comment: I hope that this research did not replace some Jobs.

June 9, 2023: I am proud of my Son Nadeem; he received a certificate as the most valuable player among the new employees (MVP) at Enterprise Rent a Car, Dallas, USA. As he was growing up, I gave him one piece of advice: if you want to be a trash man, this is perfectly fine with me, but be a good one (however, internally, I want him to be a mathematician).

June 9, 2023: Congratulation to  Rohan Mitra, who graduated summa cum laude with a double major in computer science and mathematics. He was one of my best students in Abstract Algebra and Graph Theory.

 

June 5, 2023: A 2012 AUS graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Dr. Nameer Al Khafaf has been awarded the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Prize for Research Excellence – Higher Degree by Research Award 2022 for his research on integrating renewable energy sources into existing power grids.

May 15, 2023: During my recent research on “Tarab, the good old days,” I came across a beautiful voice that I never heard about,  Ruba Al-Jamal (1966-2005). I learned that her life was a human tragedy, and the life dice played against her. She died at age 39.

May 10, 2023: Our exceptional, talented student Omar Al - Khazali (Math and Computer Science) and his team received first place during an international competition at NYUAD.

October 6, 2022: The Palestinian (mmm, not sure, if mentioning the nationality of a student is considered to be politically correct ! :)))))))) anyway, I continue) Multimedia student Tasneem Abdelfattah from American University of Sharjah has been named Regional Winner of the Global Undergraduate Awards–Visual Arts category for turning an existential conversation about time into a computer game. 4 O’Clock is a first-person narrative 3D game that discusses the speed at which time passes, and presents topics including work, time and death.

September 29, 2022: Dr. Rached Dhaouadi, Professor in Electrical Engineering and Petrofac Research Chair in Renewable Energy at American University of Sharjah (AUS), is currently working on two novel research projects in control systems utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

He was in my MTH 111, and we had fascinating philosophical points of view in my office) Sahil Rattha Singh: Throughout his five years of studies at AUS’s College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD), Rattha has won 20 major  regional and international design awards and is about to embark on the opportunity of a lifetime–an internship under the mentorship of renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.

 

September 5, 2022: Dr. Mostafa Shaaban, Associate Professor and Dr. Mahmoud Ibrahim, Professor in Electrical Engineering at AUS have developed a novel mathematical model that determines the appropriate time to clean solar panels of dust accumulation, leading to an increase in energy generation.

August 15, 2022: The AUS community is paying tribute to the life and work of Dr. Roderick “Rod” French, the founding Chancellor of the American University of Sharjah (AUS). Dr. French passed away on June 23, 2022 at the age of 93.

June 1, 2022: Another AUS success story. Dr. Ala Douba completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Columbia University, NewYork, USA in May 2022. Dr. Douba accepted a post-doctor position at Purdue University, Indiana, USA, starting July 2022. He was our student with a double major in Civil Engineering and Mathematics, he was my student in abstract algebra, and he completed his senior math project under my direction.

Dr. Hossam Shoman completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in October 2020 and now working with Nokia. he was our student with a double major in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, he was my student in abstract algebra, and he completed his senior math project under my direction.

January 11, 2019: Sir Michael Francis Atiyah, a renowned mathematician who received the Fields Medal in 1966 and the Abel Prize in 2004, which he shared with Isadore M. Singer, has died at the age of 89.
