NOV 16, 2024: “A mathematician is a coffee machine that turns coffee into Theorems,” said Paul Erdos.  AUS experts on sustainability: “ True Scientists who turn Theorems into Green," with their hard work,  we see many vegetables produced locally are now available in the UAE under the sustainability program, where AUS experts played a crucial role.  NOW, AUS-Experts, in cooperation with other local and international experts, are extending their study to the Sky and to make it a “Green Sky” by 2050.  We are proud of our AUS-Experts on sustainability.

Mohammad AlHamaydeh, Professor of Civil Engineering at American University of Sharjah (AUS), has been awarded the 2024 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Region 10 Distinguished Service Medal. This prestigious award recognizes his contributions to the civil engineering profession, particularly his leadership and innovation on a global scale.

July 21, 2024: Congratulations to Lodan Elmugamer,  Rana Gharaibeh, and Ali Reza Sajun, who won the Best Short Paper Award for AI-powered student engagement devices at the IEEE ICALT Conference 2024. I Know  Rana (a very sharp student, who took 2 courses with me, Abstract Algebra and Graph Theory). It is my chance to suggest that Abstract Algebra (in particular groups), and Graph Theory be core courses for Electrical Engineering + Computer Science + Computer Engineering students, or at least to be highly recommended courses by their Professors.

July 9, 2024: American University of Sharjah (AUS) has launched a Master of Science in Economics and Policy (MSEP) program in response to local and regional needs, fostering essential competencies crucial for a thriving knowledge-based economy. Admission is now open, with the first batch of students expected to start in Fall 2024.

July 8, 2024: I was touched by the words of our alumni, Salma Abdalla: “The diverse student body and lasting friendships I formed were crucial in shaping my character. June 24, 2024:Two Scientists, Imad Abu-Yousef and  Sofian Kanan, at the American University of Sharjah, have developed two luminescent sensors that can detect minute quantities of toxic compounds containing phosphorus, such as pesticides and Chemical Warfare Agents (CWA). This technology improves upon what is currently available in the market.

June 16, 2024: Suhail Khoury speaking Russian:  Suhail Khoury talked to me today. I learned that he was in Ramallah; he had Shawarma from “Abu-Iskandar”, one of my favorite places in Ramallah; his nephew has an Electrical Engineering degree; the nephew used AI and made Suhail look like he was giving his talk in Russian. Definitely, it is the voice of Suhail, but I am not responsible for the AI if he is saying the right things… My next project will be to use AI and speak in at least 3 different languages.  Sorry for the details (I am not a “like” or “heart” click-person 😊))); here is the video.

May 15, 2024: One more step ahead: AUS strengthens global collaboration through agreement with KAIST(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). In addition to the educational and research exchange agreements, AUS and KAIST aim to promote cultural understanding.I imagine the first step toward this is that Kim or Kang (the name is not mentioned, but most Koreans' Last name is Kim or Kang, so I have a 70% chance of being correct) wore "Kufiyyeh", and Fadi wore a suit.

January 18, 2024: In a world where the search for a revolutionary cancer treatment to save lives is of paramount importance, an American University of Sharjah (AUS) research team (Prof. Ghaleb Husseini and Prof. Mohammad Al-Sayah) has successfully secured a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a pioneering chemotherapy treatment model.

January 17, 2024: AUS Board of Trustees member Prof. Daniele Struppa( expert on Fourier Analyses) delivered a theoretical talk on "Super oscillations" at the AUS Campus. Prof. Struppa is the 13th president of Chapman University in Orange, California (note that if U send A to the front of S, we get USA , weird Badawi, I know) .

January 9, 2024: A surprised encounter: My Russian friend and colleague,  Farid Khafizov,  at the University of North Texas, USA (Ph.D. in Logic and Set Theory), gave me the Russian name “Aymanov.” We lost connection after 1999. Pic1, Pic2.

December 25, 2023: Professor Syed Tariq Rizvi (Algebraist) at the Ohio State University died. God bless his soul. An International Conference was held in 2021 dedicated to him. I presented a talk dedicated to him. He was an editor of the Palestine J. Math.

November 15, 2023: We are proud of our undergraduate Math student, Dr. Noora Alsaeed, she completed her PhD in Astrophysics and Planetary Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado-USA. Presently, she is working as a Senior Space Science Researcher at the UAE Space Agency in Abu Dhabi, she presented a talk at the AUS on November 15, 2023. July 18, 2023: Suheel Khoury talked to me, complaining that the views for the first video I posted for him on YOUTUBE went down from 700+  to  500+.   His research reveals that YouTube will increase views by one if you watch at least  60% of the video, “clicking on then off within seconds” will be detected by YouTube and will not be counted.  He sent me this video, this time in Russia, and asked me to post it, hoping he would get more views. If you are not in this area of research, I recommend that you do as I do, I will let it run on mute in the background for 25 minutes, then close it, so it will be counted as viewed.  From the video, I noticed  “Alexi” is a big fan and a follower of Suheel; here is the video. July 10--15, 2023: An Algebra Conference was held in Fes-Morocco from July 12-15, 2023 in honor of my lifetime friend and companion since the age of  -9 months, Ayman Badawi; click here. Scopus Indexed Springer Proceedings will publish a proceeding if you like to contribute with a research paper or a survey article (even if you did not attend such a conference). Click here.   Note that Proceedings of the Jangjeon Mathematical Society (South Korea) will publish a particular issue for this conference, but only conference attendees can submit papers presented at the meeting or new papers.

June 19, 2023: Dr. Mohammed Jaradat, Professor in Mechanical Engineering and a mechatronics graduate program faculty at American University of Sharjah (AUS), has put robotics at the center of his research, seeking and producing AI practical solutions that address real-world problems in areas of computational intelligence, transportation and renewable energy.  Personal comment: I hope that this research did not replace some Jobs.

June 9, 2023: I am proud of my Son Nadeem; he received a certificate as the most valuable player among the new employees (MVP) at Enterprise Rent a Car, Dallas, USA. As he was growing up, I gave him one piece of advice: if you want to be a trash man, this is perfectly fine with me, but be a good one (however, internally, I want him to be a mathematician).

June 9, 2023: Congratulation to  Rohan Mitra, who graduated summa cum laude with a double major in computer science and mathematics. He was one of my best students in Abstract Algebra and Graph Theory.

 

June 5, 2023: A 2012 AUS graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Dr. Nameer Al Khafaf has been awarded the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Prize for Research Excellence – Higher Degree by Research Award 2022 for his research on integrating renewable energy sources into existing power grids.

May 15, 2023: During my recent research on “Tarab, the good old days,” I came across a beautiful voice that I never heard about,  Ruba Al-Jamal (1966-2005). I learned that her life was a human tragedy, and the life dice played against her. She died at age 39.

December 25, 2023: Professor Syed Tariq Rizvi (Algebraist) at the Ohio State University died. God bless his soul. An international conference dedicated to him was organized in 2021. January 11, 2019: Sir Michael Francis Atiyah, a renowned mathematician who received the Fields Medal in 1966 and the Abel Prize in 2004, which he shared with Isadore M. Singer, has died at the age of 89.
